Medicare - Better Access to Mental Health Care
The Medicare 'Better Access to Mental Health Care' initiative provides rebates for a range of mental health services that have not previously been subsidised by government. The initiative increases the community's access to allied mental health professionals for mental care.
Who can access the 'Better Access' Scheme?
Anyone who has been assessed by their General Practitioner as requiring psychological support for a diagnosable condition can access a Medicare rebate for attending sessions with a PeopleSense Psychologist. A referral from a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist is required prior to the commencement of cousnelling service.
How many sesions can I have?
Most clients can receive up to 12 sessions in one calander year. Your General Practitioner will assess your progress after the first 6 sessions with your PeopleSense Psychologist.
What areas are coverd by the 'Better Access' Scheme?
Some of the more common conditions covered under the initiative are:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
- Alcohol and Drug Use
- Generalised Anxiety Disorder
- Panic
- Bereavement
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Eating Disorders
- Phobias
Is the service Confidential?
Yes. The only people who will be privy to any information regarding your sessions are your psychologist and General Practitioner (GP). After 6 sessions your PeopleSense Psychologist is required to write a report for your GP.
Can I choose my PeopleSense Psychologist?
You can discuss your needs with us then nominate your therapist to your GP/Psychiatrist so that a specific referral occurs. We will be able to advise the availability of a registered psychologist who meets your particuar needs.
